ADSL Benefits

Permanent connection: no waiting for a connection, rapid receipt and delivery of e-mail. Home users able to connect to the office server, view files and collect their email.

Fixed price: one monthly charge no additional internet call charges. BT line rental and voice call charges must still be paid to BT.

Fast: 8-32 times faster than a single ISDN line.

ADSL requires a BT Analogue phone line which does not run through your company’s switchboard. All orders for ADSL should be placed directly with Interactive Advertising Ltd on 0118 9773763 or via the online order form.

ADSL Services

ADSL runs over a BT analogue copper phone line that does not run through a switch board. If you do not have one available you will need to order the line and obtain its phone number before making the ADSL order.

For higher speeds look at Bonded ADSL.

Users: A rough guide to the number of Web browsers that can use the connection at the same time.
Upload
: Speed in bits per second (not bytes) that you can transfer files and emails into the Internet.
Download
: Speed in bits per second (not bytes) that you can receive emails and view files in a web browser.
Contention
: The number of other ADSL lines sharing your link to the Internet. 20:1 contention will give better performance than 50:1 contention.

Although BT provides most ADSL connections as far as the Internet in the UK, each ISP provides their own routing through the Internet. This means that what appear to be identical products provided by different ISP’s actually have very different performances, just as you have already experienced with Internet modem connections. Your business may require a static IP address to run SMTP (mail) or VPN services.

Firewalling

We can supply a Firewall router including NAT and VPN to protect from hackers attacking your machines at a cost of £80 + £10pp. We can also install the routers at a cost of £375 per half day.

All prices are in pounds and are subject to VAT. All accounts include a static IP address to allow e-mail routing to your mail server. This can also be used by home workers to collect email or access office servers.

Contracts

Contracts are for one month. Payments are either annually in advance or monthly by direct debit.

Service Level

Please note that ADSL is a new technology and that there is NO Service Level Agreement offered by BT. . Experience so far has shown that outside London ADSL is available 99.97% which compares favourably with modem connections. All Internet routing is through our own network and so you will not be competing with home users.

ISDN

Customers with an existing ISDN line may use this as a backup should the ADSL line fail.

Virus Checking

We would strongly recommend that you install a virus checking product such as Sophos Antivirus (www.sophos.com)
