The Purfleet was formerly a navigable waterway taking ships into the heart of town but over recent years had almost filled with silt. Part of the King's Lynn Millennium Project has been to remove the silt, build a removable barrier at the entrance from the river and fill with seawater. The Custom House is probably the most well known building in the town and was built by Sir John Turner as a merchant exchange. It is built of Ketton Stone with a life-size statue of Charles II in the niche over the door. It has recently been restored by the Borough Council and is now the Tourist Information centre. |
